Networking When It Doesn’t Come Naturally : A Former Job Seeker’s Perspective
Networking is one of the most effective ways to find a job, but for many, it can feel overwhelming or even out of reach. Whether you’re more reflective by nature or simply unsure where to begin, the barriers are real. In this session, Alice will share her journey as a former job seeker who overcame those hurdles, including:
- Fear of speaking to strangers
- Not knowing how or where to start
- Seeing networking as time-consuming
- Discomfort with self-promotion
Drawing on her own lived experience, including two redundancies and several career changes, Alice will offer practical, down-to-earth tips for building meaningful connections, even if your network is currently small. This isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room; it’s about finding authentic ways to connect that work for you.

Alice knows first-hand how tough the job market can be, she was in your shoes just last year. Having navigated multiple job transitions, she’s developed her own approach to networking that’s grounded in empathy, persistence, and authenticity. As someone who is neuro-divergent, she understands how traditional application processes often fall short, and she’s passionate about helping others discover alternative paths that align with their strengths.
