The subject of Networking is probably underrated. Its importance nevertheless is not just for those people who are talkative, outgoing and / or who have assumed positions where they are continually engaging with a lot of people all the time. No.! That would be a misconception around its purpose. Networking is a tool from which each and every one of us can benefit who is seeking to fulfil another position. There is definitely a process to it that will help you to maximise best use of your time in order to target key contacts, that will become enablers towards getting you to a positive discussion to move your search forward to the right role.
This talk is about that process. Organisation of your networking activity and keeping the relevant records of your discussions are key to future success. It requires practice and commitment for it to work effectively and to work for you. If you sow a seed by having a conversation on one day with one person and multiply that up several times over across several weeks and months, it is very likely that your network will grow with a list of people with whom you have bult a rapport This is how to tackle the so called ‘Hidden Job Market’.
