Monday 11th May – Virtual Meeting – Preparing for Interview

May 11 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Focussing on what you need to do before the interview to ensure that you’re fully prepared

Presenter: Fiona Mayhew (Mayhewleadership.com)

Fiona will be speaking on how to prepare for your interview ahead of time.  Don’t go in unprepared – you can make such a difference to the outcome by ensuring you aren’t fazed by anything that gets thrown at you on the day.  Fiona can help with that and this is the event where you can do it.
Preparation starts well in advance: from researching the organisation to dry cleaning your suit, or preparing ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ to engaging somebody in your network who works for that business and asking them what the company is like to work for.  The devil is most definitely in the detail.!
It is so easy to underestimate the level of detail which we encourage our members to focus on to ensure they appear presentable and equipped with well practised STAR answers.  This will result in a concise, impactful and crisp delivery.  Many people are unsuccessful in securing a position due to elements within their control.  Admittedly, 99% of candidates will be competing against other candidates during the process, so this isn’t necessarily something which you can influence.
However, small things can make a big difference and could give you the edge over your rivals, e.g. it is always good to follow up your meeting with a thank you – in the current climate that could be a text, email or even a good old traditional letter – your choice to gauge as you see fit.

Fiona first came to Careers Springboard eight years ago when she was training as an Executive Coach and is now one of our volunteers and coaches. She has previously enjoyed a 20 year business career spanning management consulting, strategy, finance and new product development; roles which took her all over the world.
Her most recent industry position was for Shell, where she ran the Commercial Finance team for Shell’s Global Customer Services. Before that, she held leadership positions in Strategy and New Product Development with Diageo and Thomas Cook; experiences she draws on to help coach Careers Springboard members when looking for their next opportunity.
Fiona now runs her own company, Mayhew Leadership www.mayhewleadership.com offering Leadership Development, Executive Coaching and Mentoring services for clients such as Cairngorm Capital, Shell and the London Stock Exchange.
