This presentation was originally scheduled for July 13th \nPresenter: Andy Low (Director AJL Global Ltd) \nAndy is an executive coach in career transition\, who also operates as an interim manager.\nIn addition\, his experience includes CEO / Director level positions in Consumer Media.\nAmongst his breadth of engagements are organisations such as Cadbury\, Schweppes\, Tonka\, Hasbro\, Hallmark Cards and Mills & Boon.\nAndy has been an active volunteer and trustee at Careers Springboard for several years and remains as the current Chairman whilst we seek somebody else who would like to take on this responsibility in the near future to take the charity organisation forward. \nThe subject of networking is probably under rated.  Its importance nevertheless must not be considered just for those people who are talkative\, outgoing and / or who have assumed positions where they are continually engaging with a lot of people all the time.  No!  That would be a misconception around its purpose.  Networking is a tool from which each and every one of us can benefit when seeking to fulfil another position.  There is definitely a process to it that will help you to maximise best use of your time in order to target key contacts that will become enablers towards getting you closer to somebody who is a hiring decision maker within an organisation that you have chosen you would like to work for.\nNetworking requires practice and commitment for it to work effectively and to work for you.  If you sow a seed by having a conversation on one day with one person and multiply that up several times across several weeks and months\, it is very likely that people who are 2\, 3 or more levels of connection away from you will become within your easy reach of communication enabling a rapport to be built.  This is how to tackle the so called ‘Hidden Job Market’.

Rachel\, has more than 20 years of extensive experience in Human Resources in various HR leadership positions both globally and regionally at one of the world’s largest technology corporations and most recently was VP HR at Dell Computers. In today’s uncertain and complex environments\, leaders are required to have great endurance. As a leader\, a readiness to evolve ensures that your skills remain relevant. This talk will hopefully provide more understanding on what is the Future of Work\, what do you need to know and how can you best prepare yourself to position you for success. \nOur members will learn about how the various generations (Gen X\, Gen Y\, etc) over the last 75 years or so have evolved and can be compared with each other along with their traits and their trade-offs in terms of how choices which are made by each can be very different. These decisions are often influenced by our upbringing and what we absorb as we grow and become wiser throughout our lives. External influences are also a major factor to how we think\, how we act\, and how we engage in new concepts and with whom we might connect – with friends\, colleagues and partners. \nFifty years ago there would have been 1 or 2 generations working in a business and currently there may be 5 generations. By 2040 it is likely that 6 or 7 generations could be operating within a profitable organisation. Whilst the older generations can share a multitude of their experiences with their colleagues\, the younger generations can impart state of the art technologies and concepts which they may have embraced during their school years and in the early 20’s\, ready to weave in to their first roles and help to grow businesses. Essentially\, different generations can complement each other and therefore we can learn from each other. \nWe look forward to welcoming Rachel again at Careers Springboard.

More recently\, Julie assumed the role of Senior Learning & Development Specialist at Haart\, which was her last engagement as an employee. \nFor the last 3 years\, Julie has been running her own business in communication and presentation coaching and is based in Maidenhead. She coaches and mentors senior managers and trainers\, and delivers leadership programmes to improve the motivation and effectiveness of staff. In addition\, Julie engages in recruitment and selection and provides coaching observation and feedback. \nShe is a member of Toastmasters and is also an international speaker and is very proud to have delivered her Presentation Skills course to pupils at a Girls Charity School in India. \nThis event will help you to develop an award-winning CV. The dictionary definition of this is simply “A CV that gets you to interview”. Once at interview\, it’s a working document forming a potential agenda for the meeting. So\, it’s a critical and dynamic document. SUMMARY:Monday 27th April - Virtual Meeting - Confronting Your Anxieties\, Boosting Your Confidence and Getting Yourself Known To A Wider Audience
DESCRIPTION:Chair – Richard Lambert\nSpeaker – Terry Godfrey\nIt gives us great pleasure welcoming one of our current members to the speaker panel at Careers Springboard. Terry Godfrey will be talking about a great subject\, even more pertinent in the current climate \nTerry Godfrey started out as a Trader Support working for Kleinwort Benson.  He has since secured a number of positions with a variety of different organisations\, including: Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein\, then Saratoga\, followed by Greenwich NatWest Securities\, LIFFE and Man Group.  He then spent 15 years as a Senior Trader followed by a position as a Director for Rho Capital Management LLP.\nIt is important to identify anxieties in your life that may be having an impact on your mind.  Addressing them is key and confronting them head on so you can manage your mind effectively and to not allow the impact they would otherwise have on your job search campaign.  Some of these anxieties may well be connected to the fact that you are between positions.  This is perfectly natural.  Many of us have had these experiences.\nThis leads on very naturally towards enabling greater confidence within yourself.  How you go about your day-to-day job search activities will indeed be affected by the cognitive behaviour within your brain.  Your actions are steered by your thoughts in terms of how you might approach a task or activity.  This will be dictated not just by your current psychological state\, but also by your emotional and your physiological state too.  External factors including your lifestyle\, your relationships as well as your own expectations can all influence your confidence both positively as well as negatively.\nTaking on new challenges periodically will drive your confidence upwards.  When some of these result in clear success stories\, this will provide a boost to your morale. \nAs soon as our confidence is at a level where we feel much more in control of our destiny\, we can better consider how we assert ourselves to the outside world.  We engage in activities with a wider audience in order to get a positive response\, which isn’t always the case\, admittedly\, BUT this shouldn’t put us off maintaining a positive spirit to try again or to acknowledge that actually this won’t work.  Let’s draw a line under this and try something completely different.  People warm to people\, and people like people who are like themselves.  If you can appeal to a wider audience by writing an article\, publishing a book\, participating in activities and events that promote YOU\, your character and personality will shine and as long as you continue to maintain this impetus\, you will become very appealing to a broad cross section of individuals and organisations who may wish to hire you. \nTo register for this Monday’s meeting\, please go to ‘Video Conferences’ under the ‘Services’ section of the website and click on the link. \nWe look forward to seeing you on Monday night. \nPlease register for the virtual meeting in advance of Monday evening. DESCRIPTION:Identify your key assets\, realise your true value\, discover hidden talents & create your key skills profile as the basis for your job search. \nPresenter: Mike Kavanagh (My City Bio Ltd) \n\nWelcome to the new Summer Programme at Careers Springboard. This will be a programme like no other; for the simple fact that it will be delivered virtually (at least for the foreseeable future). Starting us off will be Mike Kavanagh. \nMike is involved in helping people improve and sustain their organisations through new media\, such as online video\, to better communicate their business offerings and widen their audience – focusing on applications that harness a variety of digital media and how they can enhance working practice.\nHis business discipline is IT consultancy\, where he has been involved in designing and implementing software systems in many business sectors.  Starting off in engineering\, Mike then moved on to the financial sector – encompassing insurance & banking. Having been involved in the terrific change that has gone on in the workplace over his career\, Mike recognises that we all have to keep changing to stay involved and remain competitive in the market\, and recognising our transferable skills is a key element enabling us to do this. \nMike’s interactive session involving small breakout groups of three\, will allow you to identify and share your skills through story telling around your business experiences and achievements\, which in turn will create a greater focus around what YOU can actually do and accomplish successfully. The other two people in your group will be\na) ticking boxes identifying the skills that have surfaced via your story telling\nb) asking questions of you after the story has been told. It is important to practise your stories to ensure they have sufficient relevant detail in order to bring out the key information. If they are too long however\, the impact on the listener may reduce as well as their attention! \n
